Definition and History of Internet:


Internet is a type of network in which million of computers are connected all over the world through wireless or cable technologies. It enables us to share information with others and gives access to ocean of knowledge about everything of the world. Internet has made our world a “Global Village”, where we feel everyone as close as our neighbor.
History of Internet:
Internet was designed in 1960’s by the US Department of Defense, DARPA and was named as ARPANET (Advanced Research Project Agency NETwork). It sent its message on October 29, 1967. In the beginning, it was mostly used by scientists to transfer information about technology research and development.
On January 1, 1983, ARPANET was switched to TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol). It was introduced by Vinton Cref.
In 1985, NSFN (National Science Foundation Network) introduced their network to connect different universities in the country. In 1989, all previous networks were ended and replaced by Science Foundation’s NSFNET.
In 1989, Sir Tim Berners Lee invented WWW (World Wide Web) which revolutionized the world of Internet. In 1990’s internet became available for commercial use. Now everybody could use the internet and share/access information. Yahoo, Pizza hut, ebay and Google were launched.



The most popular app Facebook was launched in 2004 by Mark Zuckerburg. It is a social networking service that is used all over the world. In 2006 greatest video platform YouTube was introduced.
In 2007, mobile and smartphone technologies started emerging. 4G internet technology came on December 14, 2009 which increased mobile traffic by providing the high speed internet for mobile phones. Now, in 2018 5G has also been introduced which gives fastest internet speed. Advancements in the field of internet are continued. Many new technologies are coming and will come in future.
