Most powerful computer in the world

An electrical engineer, Seymour cray invented supercomputer in 1960s. He was a brilliant soft spoken computer designer who made his career in building the world’s fastest computers. Supercomputer is the most powerful computer.

Supercomputer can handle large and complex calculations and process trillions of operations per second. Supercomputer is found in research organization, Government agencies and business performing mathematical calculation as well as collecting, categorizing and analyzing data.

NOAA’S (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) perform statistical calculations and also perform database operations on large amounts of data gathered from across the nation and around the world.

Researcher at the European organization for nuclear research, found the Higgs-Boson particle by analyzing the massive amounts of data generated by the large Hadron collider.

The first supercomputer was installed at LOS Alamos National Laboratory in 1972. According to June 2019 China has 219 powerful supercomputers of the world. United state has 116 supercomputers. Japan has 29 and rest of the world has 117 powerful computers.

The price of supercomputer can be from the $100 to $250 million for design and assembly excluding the maintenance cost.

It is clear, exascale systems are capable of at least a billion-billion calculations per second, it means they are 10 to 20 times faster than the world’s fastest supercomputer today and 50 to 100 times more powerful than the  fastest computer in the world.
